Birthday girl in white heaven...

3.30.2012

Today, I'm turning 43 and I have to say that I'm happy...Not that it is my Birthday, I don't really care (except when my family forgets about it but they didn't...), no I'm happy because I feel good in my own skin and happy with what I have in my life.
I live with the love of my life who not only I think, is good-looking but has great taste and showered me with beautiful gifts this morning from Mont Blanc and COS.
I have a wonderful child who is becoming an amazing, funny and witty little person, a business that I'm passionate about.
I have friends that I have known for 25 years and others that I only met online but who are very much present in my daily life.
I have a first catalogue that received an Award early this week, a great team and people around me I enjoy working with.
I have still fire in my belly and the willingness to try things, take risk and I have decided that I will make the most of what rest of my life and if you're still not convinced, read this wonderful article by Marc Winn who I adore, on the advantage of being happy.

Below is another home designed by my design hero Jacqueline Morabito...as usual, very beautiful and you can still get a few Morabito designs on BODIE and FOU here.

Errm...I've just be blown away

3.29.2012

This week has been incredibly busy (SS/12 catalogue to finish), amazing (yes we got 'an Oscar' for our Christmas catalogue) and well a bit stressful but tonight one thing stopped me in my track.
One thing literally blew me away and skyrocket my inspiration level and it was, Desiree's post for Ikea Family Life.
Not only she is the Queen of raviolis - last time I stayed with her, I couldn't get enough of her cooking - but I'm loving her styling and I'm very much look forward to staying again in her gorgeous home later on this year.
And can I just say that I think the clipboards she painted in black are a genius idea!
Have a wonderful evening, be blown away by these stunning images and most importantly be inspired....

WE WON THE OSCARS!...

3.28.2012

Well...almost. Last night, we won the ECMOD Direct Commerce Awards 2012 for the first BODIE and FOU mail order catalogue which is a bit like The Oscars of direct marketing and I can't tell you how proud I am!
In the run-up to the Awards, I was trying to convince myself that it was not a big deal if we won or not, but having attended a conference all day and feeling sick, I kind of figured out by the time I got home to get changed that it was actually a bigger deal than I wanted to admit it.

Unlike the adorable Gwyneth, I didn't get ready for the Awards with my buddy Cameron but I got some confident-boosting feedback from friends on Facebook (yes I know I look super stressed out...I was a bit nervous and late!)
After trying five different dresses, I went for black cropped trousers from Zara, black high-heel from Country Road (gift from my kiwi Papa Noel), a pleated see-through top in cream from Reiss and a gorgeous clutch bag from Clare Vivier - chic but practical!
The glittering ceremony was at London Lancaster Hotel in Notting Hill and while we were all having a good time, I felt that going through the various awards was actually a bit nerve-wrecking but Gosh! it felt incredibly good when BODIE and FOU was called out as the winner of the Best New Market/Brand launch category. We couldn't stop smiling!!
It was an incredible night for all us and one that makes me incredibly proud of what we've achieved. I got interviewed, filmed, hugged, received lots of nice emails but as it wasn't the Oscars, I didn't get a chance to say thank you in front of everyone to Sophie, Aurora and Mark, our wonderful design agency CHS Creative and all our customers and to everyone who makes this adventure possible so MERCI MERCI TO ALL OF YOU.

I could/want to live there

3.23.2012

I have been having a strong migraine since Wednesday evening and I could cry...well actually I did a bit this am, it was so painful. I don't know if it was down to my Pilates session or a bug going around but whatever it is, I'm not a happy bunny. Over 24 hours is a very long time to have your head doing BABOUM BABOUM!
Can someone give me a lift to this wonderful place to recover please...

Self-portrait by F.A.B.

3.22.2012

My brother François, who is shooting the BODIE and FOU SS/12 catalogue did these two self-portraits last Summer which I loved because he managed to create two complete different characters.
The first one was shot in our Dad's workshop and reminds me of Tchao Pantin {So Long, Stooge in English} with Coluche but I guess you need to be French to know what movie I'm talking about.
The second one was shot in our Mum's car.

Anyway...François has been staying with us recently until he moves into his new pad next week and seeing the slow mail he was getting, I recently realised that cool his initials were...
See... as he was the kid brother of the family, we all had a say in his name.
Our Dad (Françis) was keen to have a name similar to him because he was the only son, our mum was in love with the name Baptiste and Elodie and I wanted to call him Adrian so in the end, he was called François, Adrien, Baptiste - F.A.B. Pretty cool isn't it?!

Pretty cool, hein?

B&W Styling | ♥ ♥ ♥

I would love to attend this Styling Master Class at Beckmans with Emma and a few other friends. They have all done an amazing jobs in styling still life. They are all beautiful but my favourite are these three from Amanda RodriguezAnna Gorecki and Emma's because of the contrast and the use of typography.
I can't wait to experiment Still Life styling but for the time being, I'm very excited to be working on the BODIE and FOU SS/12 catalogue. Styling for a catalogue is a bit different from styling practice or styling for a magazine as I have to use mostly products from the store to fit the story we are writing but then this gorgeous Only As print, Feathers print and Rabbit lamp look brilliant together, don't they?!
The SS/12 catalogue will be very different from the first one but it's going to be really, really nice!

Nominate BODIE and FOU as your favourite ever independent Home Shop and you could win £1000* to spend in our concept store on anything you like!

Jamie Oliver's 30-minute Spinach & Feta filo pie

3.21.2012

Last weekend, we went to Bristol to celebrate Mother's Day with our friends. While Mila was having the time of her life playing with 5-months old Isla, the boys were watching rugby, my friend Mandy fed me with this gorgeous Spinach & Feta filo which frankly was to die for. Apparently it is also really easy to make, still had a WOW factor and the taste was beyond this word...so here is the recipe for you my dear...
SPINACH & FETA PIE
  • 100g (3½oz) pinenuts
  • 5 free range or organic eggs
  • 300g (10½oz) feta cheese
  • 50g (1¾oz)
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Dried oregano
  • 1 lemon
  • A knob of butter
  • 400g (14oz) prewashed baby spinach
  • 1 x 270g pack of filo pastry
  • Cayenne pepper
  • 1 whole nutmeg

Get all your ingredients and equipment ready. Turn the oven on to 200C/ gas 6. Put a medium (approx 26cm/10½in diameter) ovenproof frying pan on a medium heat. Put the standard blade attachment in the food processor.
SPINACH & FETA PIE:   Put the pinenuts into the dry ovenproof frying pan to toast, tossing occasionally. Keep an eye on them. Crack 5 eggs into a mixing bowl and crumble in 300g (10½oz) feta. Grate in the Cheddar.
Add a pinch of pepper, a couple of pinches of dried oregano, zest of 1 lemon and a glug of olive oil. Once the nuts are light golden, add them to the egg mixture and mix well.
Put the empty frying pan back on the heat, add a little olive oil and a knob of butter and pile in half of the spinach. Gently push and move it around and add more as it wilts down. Make sure it doesn't catch on the bottom and, when there's room, start adding the rest, stirring frequently.
Meanwhile, take the pastry out of the fridge.
Lay a large sheet of greaseproof paper, approx 50cm (20in) long, on the worktop, rub a little olive oil all over it, then scrunch it up and lay it out flat again. Arrange 4 filo pastry sheets in a large rectangle, overlapping at the edges, so they almost cover the paper. Rub some olive oil over them. Sprinkle over a good pinch of salt and pepper and a pinch of cayenne. Repeat until you have 3 layers. Don't worry about any cracked bits. Remember to keep stirring the spinach.

Once the spinach is really nice and dense, take the pan off the heat. Add the wilted spinach to the egg mixture and grate in ½ a nutmeg. Mix well. Carefully move the greaseproof paper and filo into the empty frying pan so the edges spill over. Push it down into the sides of the pan, then pour in the egg mixture and spread it out. Fold the filo sheets over the top and let them fall where they will (for more help go to www. jamieoliver.com/how-to-filo-pie).
Put the pan back on a medium heat for a couple of minutes to get the bottom cooking, then put the pan into the oven on the top shelf to cook for 18 to 20 minutes, or until golden and crisp.

IKEA PS VÅGÖ

We are off to France in April for a week and I'm planning to spend a few days decorating this holiday home to make it even cosier and welcoming than it is. I would love to replace the old deck chairs by a few IKEA PS Vago.
We have two at home in London and I think their design is fabulous but my 'practical mum' is questioning how comfortable they are given that they are shorter than a normal deck chair. What do you think?

Wow...

More preview from our SS/2012 catalogue (you can request a copy here).
Our new washed linen collection from Linge Particulier is simply amazing. This beautiful grey blue duvet cover which we will upload on BODIE and FOU this week, made me feel like I was on holidays...and so did these pallets!!
As you may know, we tend to shoot the BODIE and FOU catalogue around my home to achieve a live-in style.
The room below is our guest room but the light is so amazing in it that it is also the perfect photo studio. We initially brought two pallets in, just to do the Bedroom shot for the catalogue but I'm loving this look so much that we are now going to get two more pallets and turn it into a proper base for the bed.

Life with Mila...at the pool

3.11.2012

Now that I know how to crawl, this gives me a great deal of satisfaction, let alone a huge amount of freedom & fun in the water.
My next thing is taking Pilates classes. Last week I was told by my chiropractor that around the age of 50, the upper body of women start to fall down which causes back problems. Did you know that??
It also seems that despite by regular 10K run and fitness level, my body has starting this process earlier than scheduled so I have now about 10 years to improve my core strength and get a fitter body by the time I'm 50 which frankly sucks!

Walking back from the pool...
Me: (making conversation) "I can finally crawl. Do you think I'm good?"
Mila: "um...yes you are but I dont want to say it so let's pretend I said it"...
La voila...
I'm in love with our new Ghost sofa by Paola Navone. Grey tutu from here

Inspiring blue summer...

3.10.2012

For me, Summer is very much synonym of blue and white...the blue shutters from our holidays home in the Bay of Arcachon, the kitchen cupboard I revamped (1st pic) and filled with silver cutlery and white, ceramic cups, the turquoise & white linen scarves to wear in the evening, Mila running on the beach with son papa, the Atlantic coast, the fishermen boats and white, cotton t-shirts that highlight the tan from our skins after a few days at the beach...
So as you may have noticed on Facebook, our BODIE and FOU SS/12 brochure is/will be very much inspired by all these memories of our Summers at the beach...blue, white, relaxing, free and restful...
Hope you find some inspiration in these images until Summer comes....
